Create a Compound Machine
Inventors make machines to make work easier. Before they could invent something, they noticed there was a problem or situation that needed to be made easier.
Think of an invention. The idea must be something that makes a person’s life easier in some
way. The invention can be a bit silly, but it must make sense. Remember, it MUST include at least 2
simple machines.
Create a detailed sketch of the invention.
Write a brief description of the compound machine. In the paragraph, be sure to include the
following:
O The name of your invention – come up with something creative!
O The names of the simple machines used – remember at least 2!
O How the invention makes life easier in some way
O Be sure that your paragraph is spelled correctly and has proper punctuation and capitalization
Requirements:
You must include a labeled drawing of your invention and write a brief description.
You may actually build a 3-dimensial model of your compound machine if you wish and present it to your classmates after the holidays.
You will then create an advertisement that would generate interest in your invention.
You will need to include the following 4 pieces of information on your advertisement poster:
1. name of the invention
2. Name the two or more simple machines that make up your invention
3. describe the purpose of the invention (what will it make easier)
4. How the invention works (directions)
Be able to explain to your peers how you came up with the idea and what problem you wanted to solve.
You will need to identify the simple machines used.
Explain the role of each simple machine that will make “work” easier.
If your invention is working, demonstrate how the compound machine works.
